Credit for the term “Indie Christmas” goes to Edie and Nick Wolf, previously of Indianapolis and now of Louisville, and dates back to December of 2007. It was that year that their Christmas gift for their closest friends was a mix CD of off-the-radar indie songs they had accumulated.
Indie music + living in Indianapolis + Christmas = Indie Christmas.
Clever huh?
Well in addition to having a clever, catchy name, that first CD also kicked ass, as did each subsequent CD they have made since. Every Christmas, I await the latest Indie Christmas CD from Edie and Nick, sure that it will be filled with eargasm after eargasm, and they have yet to disappoint.
This site was created as an homage to them, and as a resource for everyone who likes finding the kind of splendid music that the Indie Christmas CDs are filled with year after year.
I have picked up the torch, so to speak, and while I don’t touch Christmas – that’s Edie and Nick’s showcase – I do provide the midyear music replenishment. In addition to regularly posting individual songs I come across and like, I put together playlists in the spring and summer for all to enjoy.
That’s it. That’s all we do here at Indie Christmas: find good music and share it with you.
All thanks to that first Christmas, and that great CD from two great friends.
